Theme Month - Blowtorch (But, it's really Backstop!) |
|
Description: No, he's not winking at you. It's the crappy Plastirama paint jobs that gave him a cloudy eye.
I've never actually used his mask. I'm too chicken to snap it together. But, the silver is a neat color for his accessories. And, the silver mask, were I more ambitious, is also a match for TNT.
I got this figure by trading a Hasbro Backstop for it, straight up. Back in the early 2000's, boxed Plastirama Persuaders with bagged versions of this Backstop were cheaper to buy than a complete Hasbro Backstop. It's so easy to forget just how common the Plastirama stuff actually is. I guarantee there are hundreds of guys with carded sets in their basements who still think they're worthless because they were so cheap and available.

| May 30, 2025, 09:23:55 AM I wonder if all of these oddities will ever turn back up? One thing my brother learned the hard way, is that casually selling a thing or two on eBay can actually bite you in the ass on taxes. I think that's a big part of why things have seemed so different since roughly 2020.
I like this version a lot, but certainly not enough to pay the prices he'd be worth now. |

| May 24, 2025, 11:25:13 PM For what it's supposed to be, they did a bang up job re-creating Backstop with this mold. Part of that is why I think the Blowtorch mold would be a great choice for Factory Customs, since there's a lot of workable designs with this mold (Barricade v1 and v2, that Sky Patrol guy who uses Backstop's mold) |

| May 17, 2025, 06:59:36 PM It's weird seeing Doc's helmet in silver.
This one's an oddball for sure. Now that I'm looking at it, if the whole outfit had been cast in silver with that dark green painted on all the padding/armor, that would have been a really slick alternate look for blowtorch. |
