Super 7 Twins
Description: Got my Reaction Plus Extensive Enterprises Crimson Twins in the mail Saturday. I didn't really have time to set up a real photo shoot, so I just threw together some various O-ring figures, and a couple of 5PoAs for comparison.

The Good: The torso, waist and legs are very good. They feel very solid, the plastic feels like old school GI Joe hard plastic. They feel just slightly lighter than a classic Joe, and heavier than a Black Major figure. The suit mold looks more natural than Headman's "Suit-too-small-for-him" look. The shape of the torso feels very 1984-86 GI Joe, it's proportioned very nicely. The accessories are very nice, the pistols have decent detail including a very fine crosshatch on the grip, and the briefcases are fun. Xamot's scar is on his his right cheek, which does not match his original figure, but DOES match his cartoon appearance (That detail is a win for me, because I love the cartoon, and the figures are based on the cartoon, but I understand that for some people, that would be a negative.)

The Bad: Xamot's arm arrived broken, I'm going to get a hold of BBTS about a possible replacement. Aside from that, the arms need work. They're just slightly too skinny, better than Galoob, Mego or Ertl figures, but nowhere near as good as classic Joe. The shoulder joint which arrived broken is clearly too small, they need to make it bigger in diameter in future, though the break appears to be a flaw in the plastic. The heads are the weakest part, they're molded in hair color with painted faces, which is a huge mistake. Skin tone is pale, roughly that of the Retro O-ring Cobra Trooper. Worst of all, the heads are too skinny and gaunt, they look like the cartoon characters, but if they went vegan. If they'd proportioned the heads closer to classic O-ring, they'd look more like the cartoon characters, and they'd be better figures. Detail is roughly on par with The Corps!

Overall, I'd say they're probably better than everyone except Flint in this picture. I like them, but there are issues. Cobra Commander and Cover Girl should arrive today, which should help me form an opinion on the whole line so far. I give Super 7 a "C" grade on the Twins, but if they address the problem areas, they could do great figures in future waves.

If I found one of these twins in a random box of figures at a flea market, I'd have no idea it was a Joe.  I'd think it was a Voltron figure or something.  It just doesn't look like a Joe.  It's Joe adjacent, I guess.  Cover Girl strikes me as the same.  The heads, specifically, overmatch the bodies.  When you put "modern" sculpting on a head, but use a nearly 50 year old base, you get disproportional figures like these.  At a premium price, that's kind of unacceptable.

I've yet to see any of the first wave at retail.

This Tomax & Xamot set looks disappointing to me.  This has so much potential, but they just don't look right.  They look like off brand o-ring figures rather than actual G.I.Joe.

That's two of the biggest issues with them. 1: They don't look enough like real Joes. I get what they were aiming for with the Sunbow designs, but they've managed to make figures that don't really look like Sunbow or match classic Joe figures.  Luke's Toy Box on FB did a great job of blending the cartoon designs with the classic GI Joe figure sculpting; I wish that's what S7 would've done. 2: The price is too high. At $5 or even $10, they'd be a good deal, but at $20 per figure they really should be better. At $40, Tomax and Xamot are almost as expensive as the Thunderwing jet was, even adjusted for inflation. The Thunderwing was a lot more fun for the money.

Nice to see them amongst other figures from the 3 3/4" inch cavalcade.

I don't have the immediate distaste for these, that I did with the 5poa stuff, but these aren't something I'm going to be buying. I'll say, they did a good job scaling the torso, as that's generally the body part that kills the ability for non-G.I. Joe figures to intermingle with Joe.

Sorry to hear your Xamot was a dud!

Yeah, I realized afterward I forgot to grab either Luke Duke or Dr. Durant for some Mego representation, but the idea is still there.
They're definitely much better than the 5poa stuff, the plastic has a nice glossy sheen and the detail actually is stronger, but some of the issues definitely carry over. BBTS actually sent me a replacement Tomax and Xamot, so I've got a complete one now.

Being honest, I think he looks way worse than Boomerang Billy there, maybe outside of the torso size. With a little work these could turn into something, but in it's current state I'm not sure this line will last long enough to improve.

Also, they couldn't paint the rivets?

I'm actually a bit biased toward the Corps! figures, because I have a lot of fond early 2000s memories of them being Oktober Guard, Dreadnoks, random goons, etc (I don't know how many times the Corps! Ninjas got the Indiana Jones Arab Swordsman treatment from one of the Joes when I was a kid lol). So, I'd say I prefer Boomerang Billy personally, too.
Trying to counteract my bias, I do think that the torso and waistpiece on Tomax are more inline with GI Joe figures than the Lanard ones, and overall the figure is probably better proportioned than the Corps! With that said, the Lanard figures have a lot more personality and play value than the Super 7 figure.
Additionally, Boomerang Billy cost me 50 cents a couple weeks ago. Tomax and Xamot cost me $20ish per figure. I know which one was by far the better deal.
There's been some noise raised about the rivets online already. Hopefully that convinces them to fix that issue.
I will say both Cobra Commander and Cover Girl are better than the Twins. Cobra Commander is the best of the four. There's still a few issues, but the arms are much better, and his overall look is closer to right. I still prefer my 2022 Sunbow retro with custom head, though. Cover Girl suffers a lot from vague detail and painted face, but she's still an improvement over T&X. Overall detail on the line seems to be a roughly Lanard levels.

I have more photos of them with various figures, and some of the broken arm, here: https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5824016-post11178.html (Please delete if not allowed)
