Hello Guest

Agents of Destruction/Comic Pack 49 (Theme Week: Scrap Iron)
Description: One more for Scrap Iron Week. I think I tend to like the comic packs more than a lot of people, because I was a kid back in 2004-05 and the comic packs were a huge part of my GI Joe world, both in providing new figures and enough gear to arm them and several of my 80's figures. Three figures and a comic book for $10 was a great deal for a kid in the early 2000s.
Having said that, Scrap Iron was one of the weaker comic pack efforts, and it didn't help that he was included in the same set as Firefly, who was the best comic pack figure by a wide margin. Still, he's kind of cool, even with bright colors and Cobra Trooper pants.

Yeah, the comic packs really were a sweet deal back in the day. Getting to read a marvel comic with the figures was a real treat as a kid too.

The sandiness of the soil scales nicely here. He's odd, but I used to really like using this figure before they all discolored.

I loved that they included the comics too. My siblings and I used to try to record "radio show" type versions of the early comics (where we tried to imitate the Sunbow voices) onto cassette.

I don't think there's a single mint version of this figure left in the world.  Even carded figures have turned.  I do have a photo of him from 2006 that proves they were all once the same color all the way through.
That Firefly is the best Firefly.

Yeah, the early 2000s blues really aged badly (Though the Cobras from CP#1 and the Officer from CP#5 seem to have retained their color).
I love this Firefly and the original about equally. I got them both for the same birthday in 2005. This one used to be the "stunt" Firefly; I'd get him out whenever I needed Firefly to do action stuff, while the 1984 was Firefly when he did stuff like sneaking around and arguing with other Cobras at headquarters. Now, they both get handled carefully. Hard to believe he's almost as old now as the original was then.

Nice! I really get the feeling of them being on patrol here. The discoloration of these guys is really sad. And the forearms stay the original color, just to taunt you about what could have been.

Thanks! I feel like some of my pictures can be too cluttered, so I wanted to do something with only a couple of figures. Yeah, I can remember when these figures still looked right. Now, even Firefly is starting to yellow just a bit.

I never liked this version of Scrap Iron, the colors were just way too bright for my taste.  Crazy how he came packed with such a good version of Firefly.

I loved the comic packs back in the day, but over time I realized their flaws.  Most of the new heads were too small for their bodies, and the paintjobs were not always the best.

Now a lot of them are discoloring, or worse they have become super brittle.  I had to throw away most of my original comic pack figure because they were disintegrating (I did save the t-hooks)

Yeah, almost all of them had major flaws. But I have a lot of really fond memories of them, that even their dodgy quality can't change.
The fact that they've become so brittle is a huge bummer. I got out some of them for my nephew to play with at his grandparents house and was shocked that so many of the CP#3 Hawks that we army built (with 1982-83 or remco headswaps) back in the day have developed cracks and breaks.
