Capturing the Spies (Theme Week - Favorite Cobra) |
|
Description: Firefly and Cobra Commander always top my list of favorite Cobras, but since RTG did a Firefly photo, and Gen Liederkranz did a version of CC, I thought I'd take a photo of one of my other favorites: Ice Viper.
When I was a kid, most of my Joe world revolved around arctic operations. I had two Ice Vipers, who outranked an army of three Snow Serpents and a VvV era Snow Wolf. One Ice Viper was in great condition and had his helmet and sais, the other had no accessories, broken thumbs and paint wear that gave him a scarred face. I didn't mind Cobra Troopers being idiots, but I felt like the more specialized troops like Ice Vipers and Snow Serpents should really challenge the Joes. So, the helmeted one became Cobra's arctic ops commander, an omnicompetent villain whose deadliness was only matched by his extreme arrogance and mercenary narcissism. That arrogance and narcissism was usually his undoing, so Cobra had assigned an older, wiser Ice Viper as a second-in-command/advisor (the scar-faced figure). The end result was a duo not unlike the Romulans in the classic Star Trek episode "Balance of Terror," which, oddly enough, I hadn't seen at that time. Today, I still love the Ice Viper. He's a cool figure with or without his accessories, the WOLF is one of the best Cobra vehicles, and I really like how his helmet/balaclava combo ties him to early Cobra.
I don't love how this picture turned out. I think it's a bit crowded, the poses are a bit static and it's not quite as sharp as I'd like. I considered trying to reshoot it, but I do like the lighting, so I elected to just go with it.

Really nice photo. The set is wonderful, and the lighting really does a lot for this photo, it's well done and hits lots of notes (northern lights, vehicles, red representing the bloodletting that's about to happen).
Nice choice for the Ice Viper too, it's a figure that's really well done, but doesn't get much in the way of notoriety
Agreed! Love the lighting here, great setup.
Ice vipers are cool, I wouldn't mind having a few more of them. |
