Hello Guest

Theme Week - Chuckles
Description: Chuckles wonders when this assignment will be over and he can "resurface" into ordinary life. But he worries that deep down, he doesn't really want to.

I took this picture a while ago, after I got the brick alley backdrop and was playing around with lighting from above. It's just too dark, though. I've learned that dark photos get very little engagement on Instagram so I probably won't bother posting it there. It's funny how that works. (By contrast, my snow pics get lots of engagement, even if they're not actually good pictures--I think the brightness gets people's attention, or maybe it's built into the algorithm.)

I remember Bill Watterson wrote in the 10th Anniversary Calvin & Hobbes that one of several reasons he didn't do many Tracer Bullet strips was that the human eye is drawn to lighter space, so the ink heavy strips tend to get ignored. I wonder if that could contribute as well, though I'm sure the algorithim is most of it.

Fantastic photo, I really like the lighting.

It's the algorithm, probably. I remember there used to be an old marketing trick where you could build Instagram accounts just by posting pictures of plain white walls or something like that... The whole site's a controlled experience.

I remember shadowy night shots used to be a thing Joe photogs loved, both taking and seeing.

Anyways, nice shot General! I think the lights look pretty good, and I dig that you used MOTH Chuckles. I don't like him, but I think I'm going to use him too just because he isn't seen so much.
