The stuff of nightmares (Theme Week - Low Light) |
|
Description: Low Light has always been one of my favorite figures. When I was a kid, I liked him so much he'd get the missions that were deemed too tough for Snake Eyes. I think one of the reasons I liked him is because he reminded me of Clint Eastwood, probably because of his cold expression and his often quiet, distant portrayal in the cartoon. So I decided to try to refer to a scene from Where Eagles Dare where Eastwood quietly dispatches a German sentry. I also decided to light it entirely in red to give it an almost monochromatic look like some of Eastwood's 70's-80's movie posters.

You don't think of Low-Light as an assassin. But, at his core, that's what he is. Cool alternate use for him. I actually had an idea for a second assassination photo that I think would be pretty cool, but I just didn't end up having time to set it up and take it. |

I think I remember watching that movie with my Dad and Granddad once. I barely recall it, but I think I remember the scene your referencing, it was cool. It's a great movie, I definitely recommend revisiting it! I was young enough I don't even remember the first time I saw it, but I'm sure it was also with my dad, and I know it was on Turner Classic Movies. It instantly became one of my favorite movies and, along with the Joe cartoon, Airwolf and the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies, became one of the biggest influences on how I played with my figures as a kid.
Great shot. The lighting really gives it a chaotic feel.
Red lighting adds a real distinctive look to photos. I think a lot of my own favorites have a lot of red lighting in them. Great shot!
Dig the red lighting. This was my first time shooting one using only a red light source, and I was kinda surprised how easily the camera handled it. I thought the AA-powered LED Christmas lights I got from Dollar Tree might not be bright enough, but I ended up only using a couple of them, and it was plenty. I'm super happy with how it turned out.
