Theme Week - Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat |
|
Description: The only Mortal Kombat figure I own is the Sonya Blade seen here (My knowledge of that franchise is so limited I had to use Google to figure out which side she should be on) and since she uses mostly Jinx parts, she works pretty well with a lot of different eras. So I tried to mix in ninja/martial arts figures from all over the 80s and 90s in a big skirmish. It ended up being not quite what I was aiming for, but it's not a terrible result either. (The Chun-Li figure is a result of my childhood figure breaking long ago, and comic pack #2 being plentiful and cheap in 2004-05.)

| June 12, 2024, 10:11:27 PM Excellent setup, lots of great action here. Great location too.
It's a challenge to setup that many characters in one scene and have everyone doing something different. |

This is great, the layout here feels like a Greek frieze, like something on the top of the parthenon--the whole battle spread out laterally. Or maybe like the Bayeux Tapestry! I hadn't thought of that when I was setting it out, but you're right, it does look like that! |

Nice! I really dig the wide-spread, and it's really cool to see more shots with so many figures in them. Those The Corps! ninjas blend in good with everything going on here.
That's a fine looking location too, where is it? I'm a big fan of the Corps! ninjas, these guys are ones that I've had since I was a kid (hence the paint and broken hands lol). When I decided on what this picture was going to be, they and the Remco ninja were the first figures I grabbed. In the camouflage deco, they kind of remind me of some random ninja henchmen from the Sho Kosugi movie Rage of Honor.
The location is actually the side of a early 60's telephone pole installation truck that sits behind my workplace. I thought it was a decent approximation of one of those old abandoned industrial complexes that show up in a lot of mid-to-low budget 80's and 90's action films.
Really nice set up! The figures all fit the theme, and it's nice to see such a wide shot! Thank you!
It's great to see an ambitious set up like this. Posing all those figures took time. And, you have the barrels and cans there for Firefly to really add to the overall presentation.
I got that Sonya Blade back when carded figs were still cheap. I planned to open her up. But, put it off. Now, I'm less inclined to tear her off the card. But, I really only collect loose figures. So, maybe I should just go for it. It took quite a while to set it all up, especially since a lot of my Ninja Force figures are pretty floppy these days and kept falling over. Initially I was planning to have Firefly clearly setting explosives to wipe them all out, but I decided that this way, he could also be stealing whatever they're fighting over right out from under their noses. Either interpretation fits the character.
Sonya Blade is a decent figure, but I don't know if you're missing much by keeping her sealed. I don't think she really has enough color or detail to carry a photo on her own. |
