Hello Guest

Favourite Factory Custom
Description: The first Red Masked COBRA Soldier from the late 2000s is my all time favourite, mainly just due to how the figure actually came into existence.

In the olden days of Flickr, Outrider (R.I.P.) had posited about not knowing what to do with the 2009 blue COBRA Soldier that TBM had done, so I suggested he paint the masks red like in all the early media. He liked the idea, and did so. TBM mentioned liking the idea and put it out himself. The red masked Troopers came out surprisingly fast afterwards too.

Anyways, here's a photo from either 2010 or 2011.

I love these figures.  But, all mine have wonky waist/legs so they can't stand.  And, the right arm is just super loose at the elbow joint.  I actually still have a sealed Trooper just because I never bothered to finish opening them.

The only real Stinger Trooper that BM ever did was a grey Trooper with these red highlights.  I had a bunch of them.  But, the same quality issues were present.  I thought I still had a couple.  But, I haven't seen them in a while.

Yeah, these figures and the Stinger have a definite quality shift from even the previous wave of Troopers (Tan with Brown mask, and a couple of unreleased ideas), but I think part of that was they were a rush job, things were shifting over to the Crimson Guard at the time.

I remember when Outrider painted those masks red and inspired these to be made.  He always made those early Black Major figures look amazing.

I wanted some of these back then, but I think I had bought too much other stuff at the time and missed out.

This shot's still great! The floating Flight Pod fills out the composition perfectly. The shadows and fence both look really good too.

The joint tolerances on these early customs was always a bit of a bummer, but all of them, especially this figure, felt right in a way his newer figures don't always seem to. The colors were much better.

Interesting, I didn't know that story. I only got some of these last year, and they are great. The paint and plastic is much better than on the more recent 2021 red-mask figures he did.

Mine have the same posing problems. I've found I can get the waist to stick at a certain angle and then just not move it.
