25th Stinger |
|
Description: "Skystrikers spotted west! Make those missiles count!"
Not seen so often anymore, the only thing more perplexing than Hasbro not reissuing the old Stinger was for them to make a high quality new Stinger... and then only release it as a limited, online exclusive. No repaints or reissues in any of the following years before GI Joe died on Retaliation (well, besides the convention Python version, which is still rare).
Like the 25th VAMP, the size upgrade lets figures actually see through the front of the vehicle without having their heads rub against the roll bar. Also has those nifty clear headlights and taillights, which look fantastic.

| May 04, 2024, 12:42:56 AM I remember being frustrated when it was announced that the last wave of 25th vehicles were going to be online only. I had to resort to eBay at the time, and when I first tried to order a stinger, I almost got scammed.
Somehow, I eventually ended up with 2 25th stingers, both came from eBay I think. We didn't have a Ross back then.
I love that they upscaled it, as you said O-ring figures fit inside a lot better. The quality of the decals sucks though. Someday I need to replace them. Those clear headlights and taillights are awesome.
Nice shot. I like the pose on the CG.
I think mine are packed away in a container, I should probably check on them this week. Even though they are newer, I've seen newer stuff deteriorate faster that the older vintage stuff. |

| May 02, 2024, 06:20:39 PM I didn't collect that line and haven't really paid attention before--it is a good-looking Stinger! The CG is a nice touch, with the ubiquitous, but rarely-seen-in-photos, accessory pack backpack. |

Though, I never understood the AK on the hood thing, they already had a shovel sculpted, just use that! |

| May 02, 2024, 02:42:35 AM I swear I saw two of these at a Ross back in those days. I was pretty out of the community, though, so didn't buy them.
My one regret of the anniversary era is that I didn't buy more of the redone, but classically colored vehicles. With the vintage plastic all falling apart now, having stuff that was 25 years newer would have been great. And, it was the last time we'll ever see affordable vehicles like that.
Last I checked, many of the 2000's vehicles were outpacing even their vintage counterparts in pricing. Don't know if that's still the case, though. |
