Hello Guest

Caught a Doozy!
Description: I always went by the old theory that Hasbro cut the paint masks on the 1994 figures to save money.  However, in researching this Stalker, the yellow highlights figure was produced in both China and Indonesia.  The non-highlights figures were both produced in both countries, too.

So, the highlights were a deliberate variant on the figure instead of a cost cutting move.  For some reason, the '94 COO variants are starting to grab my attention.  So, going to dive into them a bit more.

Excellent shot! I want to like that Stalker, but those neck rings bug the hell outta me.

Looking at the card art, it seems the original intent might have been that he was wearing a black turtle neck that would have extended to his neck.  Then, the whole vest was supposed to match the olive green that you see on the rest of him.  Had that happened, he might have been the best Stalker ever released.

It took me awhile to track down the no yellow version, the missing paint on the thigh straps always bugged me on the yellow one.

'94 stalker really deserved a proper repaint, a shame we never got one.

Nice picture! It shows something I'd never noticed before, that the 94 Stalker WITH yellow paint highlights actually loses one paint application--the pistol straps on the inner left thigh--which is weird. It's fascinating that the paint differences don't correlate to China/Indonesia. I wonder if the switch was a matter of changing contractors, or if Hasbro kept the same machinery and just moved it from one country to another?

Very interesting. Thinking back on things I know from that era, maybe they made superficial changes to incentivize speculators/scalpers to buy more? They did a lot of packaging variations too, which might go along with that.

Great shot as well, you're really making me want to army-build some more Flak Vipers.
