Description: There's sort of an unannounced desert theme in the 1990 series, if you view the Sonic Viper as a desert uniform.

| July 30, 2020, 02:22:44 AM Thanks! I thought the AP rifles would give them a different feel from their identity as Sonic Vipers so they'd work better in the desert. |

| July 30, 2020, 02:00:36 AM Welcome aboard! Excellent scene. What an army, you don't see those vipers in numbers like that. They look great with those accessory pack rifles. Great posing too. |

The 1990 desert theme is pretty on point, actually. Sonic Law and Tunnel Rat both work in that theatre as does Airwave(?) and a couple of the drivers. |

| July 27, 2020, 12:18:50 AM Thanks! Bullhorn is in that scene too, but invisible in this shot--you could argue he's in a desert outfit too. I've wondered about the desert theme for a long time. I would assume Desert Storm is why Cobra finally got a real desert trooper in 1991, and why Dusty was reissued--but I don't know if Hasbro could turn designs around even that fast, since Desert Storm was just a few months earlier. I was buying Joes as a kid at the time and for some reason the first one I remember thinking of as Desert Storm-inspired was 1992 Duke. | July 26, 2020, 10:39:27 PM Welcome to the site! I really like how far those Vipers go into the depth, it looks like there's an endless amount of them.
That's a good point about the desert theme, too. At a glance, one might assume it tied into the Gulf War, but that was a year later. I wonder what might've prompted this choice? |
