Description: Hawk informs his troops, that they've got three Joes to rescue in some god forsaken Central American torture hole, and that they'll be boarding a plane ASAP.
Issues #12-#19 of the Marvel run are my favourite G.I. Joe comic stories. It's when both sides were still manageable in terms of size, things also aren't too convoluted and everything wraps up nicely. The fact Red Laser made a custom of Hawk from my favourite Issue (#13) was really cool!

I love how simple yet dramatic this shot looks! You really nailed the poses.
The Red Laser customs are amazing, too. I really like The Joes he's made and I hope he works some more in alongside the typical army builders. | |

Those early issues were magic. I still think the first 2 years is best overall story arc. #25 is kind of a marker since it really brought the '84 characters into the fold and team got too big for everyone to get some use on a routine basis.
That Hawk is just awesome. I really want one and need to pull the trigger soon. It's just, there's so many army builders coming, too. Which to buy? Which to buy?
25 is a good marker, actually. I still think there's some good stories for a while afterwards, but the quality of the book really drops (Especially with the terrible art in the late 20s!)
For the bootlegs, I'd definitely think about going for some of the characters first. They really provide some new choices for shots.

#46 was my entry point & while I loved seeing Storm Shadow's arc during that time & the battle for Cobra Island later on had some satisfying moments, when taken as a whole, the first block of stories that you & Mike are referring to, I agree are the best.
Thanks! The late 40s of the book at least have some driving storyline, and the characters that were developed are still kicking around. I think the book tends to get lost in the woods once a lot of the 87s and 88s get introduced because it's obvious Hama doesn't care about a guy like Fast Draw all that much!
