Description: For a figure that really doesn't have much going for it, since the colours and design are both somewhat out of whack, the 1988 Voltar figure is one that I have developed quite an affinity for.

I think if the figure had slightly more black people would appreciate him better. The magenta is a nice shade and breaks up the otherwise monotonous Iron Grenadiers. There's just so much of it that I think it makes him look worse for it. I like that the tone maches the Nullifiers. | |

I kind of like Voltar a little bit these days too. It's probably because as a kid, I hated his guts and made him get killed off in every battle. I guess he must've been clones. So I have a lot of nostalgia for him.
Hahaha! I think Voltar is one of those figures that you have to warm up to. He's one that is very easy to hate (His gun is stupid, he's dressed like a flamingo), but once you get past that, you can warm up to him. It only took me a few decades.
I've always wanted him to just be a little better. In the end, I think it's his gun. Had he come with a better rifle, I'd take him much more seriously.
(And, honestly, pretty much every Voltar custom that tries to "make him realistic" sucks. The mold was designed for bold colors and doesn't work without them.)
Yeah his gun is terrible, and he might actually benefit from something from the Star Brigade Roadblock golden weapon tree.
You're definitely right about the mold being designed for bold colours. Frankly, the only way to make him "realistic", where the figure wouldn't suck, would be COBRA Blue, which no customizer wants to try, because he's an Iron Grenadier, despite being released as COBRA, and he showed up after the Iron Grenadiers basically became COBRAs in the comic. |
